On Saturday night, friends and supporters filled the Hideout, pushing up against the fire code limit — which is only appropriate to celebrate the launch of Seattle’s newest, hottest, progressive news source, The Burner.

First off: thank you to everyone who showed up. In true Hannah fashion, I rounded up a real ragtag crew—from ANTIFA super-soldiers in plainclothes to the girls I watch The Bachelor with. And if you missed it, take comfort in knowing that basically everyone pitted out in their clothes. So, at least you skipped out on that!

Anyway! The Burner. In my time away from the Seattle news-o-sphere, I thought a lot about how people my age get informed. It's not from reading the New York Times or watching MSNBC. It’s the current events podcast they throw on for their hot girl walk after work, it’s the Tik Toker who they feel a connection with through their screen. And right now, the rightwing is winning the attention war, whether it’s Joe Rogan convincing young men to drink raw milk or local reactionaries feeding the pearl clutcher's anti-poor propaganda.

So I’m launching The Burner as a landing page for all the work I’ll do to be the reporter that meets people where they are. I’ll be blogging, podcasting, Tik Toking (so long as it doesn’t get banned), and eventually building a calendar to get young progressives to actually show up.

Sound interesting? Contribute today to keep me working!
